When
people hear the words "secret service" they all think, "Oh
they must be from the FBI, CIA, MI5," and so on because most
major countries have some sort of undercover covert law enforcement
unit. But the country you hear least about having an FBI-like police
unit is Greece. Little do we know they have the most elite and highly
trained force you can have, The Whistleblowers.

In every ruin in Greece there is a highly trained team of elite people, a unit that relies on complete silence and their lungs. We call them The Whistleblowers. Their mission: to stop any tourists wandering into a restricted area trying the get that perfect shot. Their weapon of choice: the whistle. Whistleblowers can be found lurking in the shadows waiting for the unsuspecting tourist to wander through the barrier. Then BOOM, the whistleblower attacks and the tourist is retreating to the safe boundaries of the permitted area. Now I have had many run ins with a whistleblower. They are aggressive, scary and just plain mean.
At our most recent ruin, the site of Delphi, I was whistleblown only once. Delphi was where the oracales (prophets) lived. Once in a while an important person would come up to them and ask for advice . The oracale would breathe in a natural gas from an opening in the ground. Then she would get high on the gas and start spouting gibberish. The priest would interpret the gibberish and tell the person a poem or a short line to advise him based what the oracale said. It was also the place where they would hold competitive track and field games every 4 years. It was the second most important event of the year next to the Olympic Games.
